I painted them… I’ll weld them to the angle iron that the roll bar is attached to.

    Post Rubicon trip report….
When I got home and started looking at my JEEP to make sure it was good to go for my next adventure, I found a few minor things that needed attention:
1st was I found that I was missing several bolts on the front hubs that held them in place.
    IMG_3948.jpg
    IMG_3949.jpg
I had replacement bolts in my bag of nuts and bolts in the JEEP, so I used red loctite and replaced the missing bolts and removed the other bolts and used red loctite on those and torqued all down to 45ft pounds.

2nd issue was a leaking axle tube seal in the front end, so I pulled the cover and changed both the seals and put in new gear oil, ( it needed changing after playing in the mud bog).

3rd issue was I pulled out wiring to a rear LED tail light, so I had to find the right diodes and it’s back to working.

4th issue is my broken rear tire carrier spindle,
    .
    IMG_3852.jpg
i ordered a new one from RuffStuff, haven’t figured out how I’m going to remove this yet, or if I’m going to build a new rear bumper…we will see.

5th issue, need to look at wiring under dash for my KC lights both for rear and front from my slight mishap of my electrical fire in the swamp.

6th issue, overheating issue. While crawling on the trail my temp would hit 225+, never boiled over just was concerning. On the road it runs 175 even in 100+ degree weather. On the trail if I would shut motor off and leave the electric fan running temp would drop to below 200 in about 5 minutes.
When I got home I started digging into this, pulled the radiator and took it into radiator shop and we were able to confirm that several tubes were blocked on the passenger side. Per the radiator shop he told me it would be cheaper to just order a new aluminum radiator from Champion to replace the 9 year old Champion aluminum radiator that was in the JEEP then to try and fix this one. He was able to get me the same drop in 3 row radiator in a day for $250, cheaper then I could by direct from Champion. I havnt got it fully installed yet, as I am making a custom fan shroud for it to see if I can keep this thing cool.

all in all for as rough as this trail is I don’t think I did to bad for mechanical issues.

I got my new radiator, still in the box, working with old one as not to bend new one all up. Started making my fan shroud today, worked until noon, (102*).

It’s easier to remove the grill with the radiator then to pull the fan to get the radiator out.
    . IMG_3963.jpg
    IMG_3960.jpg
started with a piece of 24 gauge steel, bent it to fit the radiator, (will use camper tape on edges to seal it to radiator).
    IMG_3964.jpg
fitting it to make sure I have 1” clearance for the fan.
    IMG_3966.jpg
I’m going to make a 1” extension so the fan sits inside about half the distance of fan.
    . IMG_3967.jpg
Cut a piece for the bottom to enclose the whole thing.
    IMG_3982.jpg
    added 1” piece to perimeter.
    IMG_3983.jpg
you can see the piece I added to enclose the bottom.
    IMG_3984.jpg
I will hit garage early tomorrow and button this up.

I started off in garage around 630AM this morning and worked until 830AM, (it was 85*), then I would go out for about 15 minutes at a time and came inside for 30-45 minutes, (110* was high today).
I did manage to get my fan shroud finished and mounted, still need to finish putting some things together before starting it up.
I finished the bottom potion. I decided to pop rivet this together. This is a prototype, if it works I will make it out of aluminum and TIG weld it.

I finished the fan shroud, took it for a drive. It was 101* out and I locked in the hubs and dropped in 4 Lo-Lo and idled around for 50 minutes, only got to just below 200*….i can live with this…
    IMG_4012.jpg

the shroud seams to working pretty well, except I have a slight rubbing issue when I rev up the motor and the fan flex. IMG_4014.jpg

I’m going to try and bend it out a little as soon as things cool down.

Now I need to crawl under the dash and figure out why I had smoking wires.
Also need to figure out spare tire swing out carrier.

Yes…the fan got into a while back. I think it needed replacing a while ago. The 225*+ really bothered me, only real mechanical problem and it really wasn’t an issue as it was running well.

I figured out my wiring issue under dash…one of the hot leads came off my switch for the rear KC’s, and grounded out on the metal bracket for the swinging pedals. It did blow the 25 amp fuse, but not before it melted the sheathing on the wire, (source of smoke coming from under dash). All fixed and working. This time I used heat shrink around fittings to the switch and secured the wiring differently so hopefully it won’t come off.
No pictures cause I was standing on my head to work under dash.
    Another item off the list!
Last thing on list is the swing out spare tire spindle.
