If I was a betting man I'd say you could probably find that axle at the upcoming Portland swap meet in a couple weeks

I do and I've been doing this stuff for a long time. Rear Difs are very 'touchy' IMOP and since it runs all the time, I want it right. It is way to expensive to blow that stuff up, and it always happens at the WRONG time.

Some folks do set them up, I don't see the need to invest in the special tools and time to learn no more often than I have them changed. I have a good diff guy here in town that is reasonable for me to use...

I'm not ashamed to pay for expertise.

I hope you are using humor here...
I used to rebuild Jeep parts for a living. It can take several hours to rebuild an axle.

I'm not saying you can't do the setup on the gears yourself, Hopefully you have a FSM.
Lots of info on this site and on the web. One of the things is that some of the tools are specialized, meaning you will be tearing parts out and swearing.
    You can do it.

Sure, you can do it if you want. Just, like the other guys have said, be prepared to invest several hundred $$$ in specialized tools and be willing to spend the time to learn how to use them. For most it's not worth it. For me, I started that way and since have been doing R&P setup for others to recoup the investment. If you were in the area...

I have thousands of dollars invested in in axle tools to do it right. The average guy can probably get away with about $500-$1000 worth of tools to do it himself, what, maybe once or twice? Is it worth that investment? What is your time worth? What happens if you don't get something right and it fails? You lose that monetary investment as well.
Not trying to scare you as lots of folks have been successful doing it themselves, but you have to weigh the investment and possible consequences against what you "might" gain doing it yourself (other than the given of knowledge of course).

I didn't realize the complexity of setting up the gears. I'm thankful for this thread, its giving me a lot to consider.
