That electric oil pressure gauge has been acting up, sometimes it won’t register unless I turn key off and back on.

Worked on JEEP tonight after work.
First thing I did was try to adjust clutch. I posted above that I was leaving the floor out so I could get to the clutch to adjust it, well I got over ambitious. and installed it before I adjusted the clutch so I spent tonight pulling seats and seat brackets so I could pull back up the floor…:banghead:
I’ll get to the clutch tomorrow…. Time for

I got the clutch adjusted and took JEEP around the block yesterday after work, clutch still needs a little more adjustment, when it got warmed up it wasn’t fully engaging making shifting difficult. I couldn’t adjust after my drive yesterday because of the exhaust that sits right next to the cylinder, If I get time today I’ll do some adjusting.

I’ve gotten the JEEP out on the road. It idles fine and revs up fine in the garage. When I take it down the road it starts breaking up in 3rd and 4th around 3000 rpm. I’ve put a fuel pressure gauge on and routed it into the cab and I’m getting 4.5 lbs of pressure consistently through all rpm’s, so I don’t believe it’s a fuel issue. I’m leaning towards an electrical issue. I’ve sent distributor back to DUI and they replaced it. I’ve swapped out cap and rotor and plugs and plug wires and also the coil, still no change.

    I did buy a new alternator .
This is a nice unit from Quality Power Auto
140 amp at 2500 rpm’s and 85 amps at idle.

Bought some 4 gauge welding cable to hook this up.

Sure sounds like ignition breaking down.
One quick and dirty test ( something I've fought before) jump around the ignition switch and go for a drive. I've had contacts in switches get worn/fussy especially when they get hot.
The leads from the ignition module up to the cap are also prone to cracking right where they come out of the body.

I’m willing to try anything at this point, I’ll try it later tonight when I get home.

I’m giing to try the coil then I was gonna throw back in the original distributor and give that a try.

Update: I started to install the new alternator and found that the rear battery stud was hitting the valve covers, so I called Quality Power and they told me to send it back and they will move the post to the side…waiting to get it back. I started to clean up the wiring for the new 1-wire alternator, (get rid of wires no longer needed), and found that the wires from the external voltage regulator to the alternator were starting to deteriorate with the outside shielding coming off leaving bare wire exposed.

Worked on the JEEP today after work. Cleaned up wiring, still waiting for alternator to come back, I think Friday.
I’ve had this box since I got back from Rubicon trip.

It cleaned up my relays I am using for electric fuel pump, electric fan, KC lights and rear flood lights. I still have 2 relays left, one I’m going to use for headlights.

My new alternator was delivered yesterday, got it installed today. Took JEEP for a drive, got around the corner and ran out of gas..:censored:
Grabbed my lawn owner gas and dumped 5 gallons in it and finished my trip around block, no change with motor breaking up in 3rd and 4th when I get to around 3000 rpms. I have a couple other things to look into with distributor, if those don’t solve my issue then I’m gonna throw in original and see if that cleans it up.

I tried a couple things today to get this thing to run right.

    1. Ran a 10 gauge wire directly to distributor from the battery, getting 13.6 volts while cranking, well within specs of over 10.5 volts. (Didn’t change things)
    2. Swapped in a new ignition Module in the HEI distributor. (Didn’t change things)
    3. Swapped in all new spark plugs, again. (Didn’t change things)
    4. Put new set of spark plug wires on. (Didn’t change things)
    5. Swapped in a new magnetic pickup coil. (Didn’t change anything)

I ran this thing around block each time I changed anything, and nothing seems to help, nothing was better or worse.

I finally put back in the original distributor with the PerTronix ignition module in it and a Flame Thrower coil. (Didn’t change anything)

    I’M FRUSTRATED! :banghead:

Does it start acting up only when it is under load, or will it misfire above 3000 rpm when it is parked?

This might be a crazy idea…remove the zip ties holding the spark plug wires together so that the wires are not touching and/or try a different set.

Throwing out ideas: What is the plug gap? Check that the pcv valve functions and is not stuck.
