Didn’t do anything to JEEP today. I did take my flywheel to get resurfaced, only took an hour and cost me $35, seemed pretty reasonable.
I checked vacuum on valves yesterday and they were holding 22 inch pounds of pressure.
I’ll start putting the motor back together tomorrow.

Good to know they are all equal.
I would be curious to vacuum check the brand new oddfire heads I have on the shelf.
The SBC heads on my engine pulled down to 28”.
Higher spring pressure and better valve seals probably has something to do with it.

I didn’t change anything out, this was with all the used valve seals and the springs that have 30k miles on them give or take

I got some time in garage this morning…got heads and lifters and push rods installed and all torqued down. I still need to set lash on the valves before buttoning this up. Put the front timing chain cover and dampener on. Installed oil pan. I set the old intake on top and valve covers on to keep things clean until I get back to it.

I came down with an eye problem around noon today while at work…..eye couldn’t see myself at work any longer, so I came home to work on the JEEP.
I got motor all buttoned up and the pilot bushing in the back of the crank and clutch and flywheel bolted up. I cleaned the bell housing I attached it to the transmission with the new throw out bearing installed.
Tomorrow after work I will put the motor back where it belongs under the hood.

It’s almost in, I was trying to this myself and got frustrated and walked away. I’ll get some help this weekend and get it in.

Didn’t get to the JEEP yesterday, played hooky from work and spent day at the lake fishing.

    got a little done today.
I dropped the transmission and transfer case out of the JEEP this morning and married them up with the motor and dropped the whole unit back into the JEEP, this was actually easier then trying to line up the transmission output shaft with the clutch plate and pilot bushing. I put back in the exhaust headers and the cross pipe. Reassembled the front accessories.

the floor is still out as it’s easier to bleed the hydraulic clutch with it out.
    IMG_4739.jpg .
When I went to hook back up the vacuum line for the brake booster I realized that I broke the fitting off in the intake manifold. Finished for the day, I’ll deal with this tomorrow.

Hopefully that fitting is somewhat accessible. The stub should cooperate with an easy out if you can get a good shot at it

It shouldn’t be that difficult to get too, it’s right off the back of manifold behind carb

Yeah, that shouldn’t be too bad. The oil pressure port that’s usually behind the manifold on the block is a different story. Busted a few SBC ones off swapping engines. 30 seconds saved taking it out turns into HOURS of fun and games…..

That went well! Took about 5 minutes, took longer to drive to my Dads to get the tool I needed.
    IMG_4742.jpg

The hole on the bottom was where this was broken off. It can be accessed from inside the manifold so I used duct tape to cover the hole from inside to catch anything that might fall through.
    IMG_4744.jpg
I got carb hooked up, distributor in and plug wires on.

    IMG_4746.jpg

Tomorrow I’ll put grill and radiator back in and it should be ready to fire up.

once I get it running I’m gonna swap the fuel injection back on it to give it 1 more chance.

You remembered to pull the tape off the inside right?

I worked on the JEEP for about an hour tonight after work. Installed grill and radiator, filled with antifreeze, filled with oil. Put back in floor and connected accelerator. Connected battery and fired it off…. Success!
I’m done for the night but I still need to put timing light on it and adjust the clutch as it wasn’t engaging, and install the seats, then I can take it for a drive.
I have video of it starting and running but don’t know how to post videos.

That sounds good. Oil pressure shot way up. Wonder what it is when hot.
