I was thinking about a take off unit from a gm 4.3. Grab all the parts including the wiring and fab up a crank trigger. I was also thinking it might be easier to purchase the whole package from Howell, and not stress on the wiring. NorCal69 laid this out in great detail.

NorCal69 recommended that I purchase a kit from Affordable Fuel Injection to save a few a couple/few hundred dollars ($1045 shipped). I let them know the plan with the crank trigger. I know we discussed the length of the three un-terminated wires, but I don’t recall if they “extended” them for me or if standard was enough. I ordered from Amazon, Dorman 645-526 to get the sensor pigtail, and Dorman 917-744 for the sensor. Due to my fender well headers, I had to order some O2 sensor extensions. Also Amazon, I found a two pack of 2’ extensions. One should work, but if not, I will have enough.

I'm overall happy with AFI but the technology is getting dated. I used a diy boat filter surge tank.
They added an extra up idle switch to my harness so I have the program idle plus three pcm governed high idle combinations for my hydraulic pump and on board air.

Thanks for the info on this, I’ll look at this before I make my final decision.

What Jw60 says is true, but the technology fits the addition of a TBI to the oddfire engine well. The OBD1 systems were being developed over 40 years ago whereas the OBD2 systems became available in the 1990s. With the case being the oddfire engine cannot fully utilize the features of either design system (fuel control and spark control), the simplicity of a TBI and ODB1 ECM fit the project best because the only thing the ECM is controlling is fuel. The early OBD1 ECMs are easily programed with a free software (TunerPro) available on the internet. The more advanced or complexity of the OBD2 systems require special software available from various companies or generally a visit to a local tuner for adjusts.

What 45es said is on point.
For adapting fuel injection to an dauntless go with a very early design GM OBD1 system be it junk yard, AFI or that H  place.
These systems are very simple and once sorted out are extremely reliable.
If you desire a more tuneable or self learning system then skip all the later model GM systems and go with a Holley Sniper.
In the event that you go with an early GM system you will want the tune that I have. It is much better than the tune supplied by AFI or the hacks at the H place.

This morning at 6:15am it was -7°f with still air on a city street. walked out to my jeep with the 4.3l AFI system, mild cam, flat top pistons and gave it a go. Took a few rotations for it to crank with but it soon fired right up. Ran a little rich but my exhaust is completely trashed and it was no where near warm before I drove away from my house (and once sleeping neighbors).

Took the week off to get some stuff around house done.
Bought new shocks for the front end, wasn’t on my list but it needed it. Took it for a ride to stretch it out, haven't driven it since I redid the rear.
Don’t mind the cut out on the fenders, I’ll clean those up this weekend.
    IMG_3279.jpg
I just noticed that the brake line is stretched out, I’ll need to get longer front brake hoses.

    sitting on bump stops.
    IMG_3282.jpg
The rear corners are now clear of the tire.
    IMG_3283.jpg
The front just makes contact with wheel well notch, but it is on the bump stops so I’m not to worried about it hitting to bad.

The new shocks do ride nicer, took away some of the body roll going down the road. I did notice a little vibration at 55-60 mph, I’ll need to check rear drive line.
I also started a mount on my spare tire carrier for a fuel can. I hope I don’t need it but it is nice to have and not need it. Between the front and rear tanks I carry 25 gallons of fuel and the new Rotopax is 2.5 gallons.

Your front/rear tank setup is the same as mine.
For a Rubicon trip, you will have 10-15 gal of fuel to spare if you start off full from last gas.
I guess I am saying don't stress over space for extra fuel on that trip. (y)

I’m not to concerned about the extra gas for the Rubicon trip. I was thinking it can be used for carrying water also. I’ve been meaning to build this rack for a while just getting around to it.

I have gas can mounted right now, just ordered a water container.
Been packing JEEP with camping gear to see if I have enough room, needed room for water. Rubicon trip is approaching fast!

Remember, it expands like 20 percent at the end of the trip because you can never quite get is as neat and tight when you're headed home.

I found that if I packed and repacked at home a couple times I would think of ways to substitute items of smaller size that will work just as well or substitute things for other items with dual usage. Kinda like backpacking trips. A gallon of motor oil takes less room than 4 qt bottles, throw in a small bottle of STP oil treatment then it could be added to motor oil for temporary gear oil.

This could almost be its own thread. Someone once asked me on a trip why I cut the carton in half and brought only a half dozen eggs. I replied, because I drive a flatfender.

Looking at my winter to do list, only couple of things left:
    1. Tie roll bar into frame
    2. Seat belt harness bar
    3. Fuel injection
