You all got me to thinking (dangerous I know) so I went out and checked my 74. And sure enough my larger trans tunnel cover is most definitely spot welded in. The manufacture date is April 74.

I just picked up one of these at Qtr ton military near Ringgold Ga. I think it was walacks where I have seen them too. They are for 55 thru 71 cj5, but should fit a 74 with some minor mods for the transfer shift lever hole.
For my 74 It appears it will fit fairly well. However the factory trans cover appears to have a bit of a more shallow angle than the factory large tunnel cover. You may be able to see the difference in the angles in the second photo with my factory trans cover. There seems not to be a lot of difference so a slight modification may remedy the fit.

I’m reviving an old thread here, but did this end up fitting correctly? And how did you have to modify the older cover to fit the intermediate floor any? I might be doing this to a 75 cj5 soon.

Sorry, I cannot help with that. I still have the new parts but have not tried to install or modify them, still sitting on my shop shelf. After I bought the big floor pan I realized that it is listed for the 55 thru 71 models. The intermediate models 72 thru 75 might have been just a little different, not sure if that is the case or if the aftermarket pan I bought is incorrectly made. I would have thought the early and intermediate floor would have been the same. When I get around to removing the original floor pan from my 74 jeep I can compare them and tell which is different.

I can’t speak to intermediates specifically but I know there are at least 3 sets of main floor plates that differ from each other. And this is exclusive from just the transmission cover (where the shifter comes through). I have at least that many here in storage. I found out the hard way.
