Yes, that brake line material is easy to flare/ bend, and with the flaring tool, it's hand held, no need for a vice;) I may have mentioned, if you want to go a step further in protection and appearance, this line protection looks really neat;)

Just always remember to put your flare nut on before flaring , can't tell you how many times I've flared and look down seeing the flare nut on the bench :coffee:

Yup, been there and done that myself (more than once).

Mike, I can send you a few inches off loom if you don't have any. This should be in place before flaring. It protects abrasion under the axle tube clips. PM me your address and I'll pop it in the mail if you wish.

Got back out under the Jeep today. Some disassembly and cleaning, and education.

Cleaned off the rear axle mounts where backers bolt on. Scraped old gunk off backs, cleaned and exposed grease fittings.

Removed rear brake lines from the t fitting. One came not too bad, the second had to be cut and a socket on the fitting to remove.

got the one rear axle clip off easy and in to clean off. Didn’t try to remove the other guide that mounts to a bolt on the differential cover.

observations and education - rolled under and followed the brake lines. I have a single master, not the dual. Single hole outlet fitting, to a 4 way tee at the front. Tee feeds two front lines and long line to the back. Line to the back is 2 pieces with junction near master cylinder. Didn’t look for clips along frame. Learned of those after coming in and reviewing drawing. Line is loose in there so either clips are gone or it is not hooked. Almost like circuit in my SM-1002R6 manual.

Master cylinder bottom is “wet”. Hasn’t moved in years, so I expect brake fluid so some master fussing may be essential. Does not look like easy task to get to.

Brake line making tools coming this week and if weather is warmer, some backer painting!

    Slowly trudging forward!

Mike, it's good to hear your progress. Cleaning and scraping gunk...yes, we're familiar with that! Which brake tools have you decided on?

I was pretty sure that gunk removal was common. I probably had some crusted on almost as old as the Jeep. The one axle brake line clip popped right off, degreased and looks original.

I got the Titan hand flare tool from the local parts place with coupon so about same as Amazon, did order a low cost Klein bender and a straightener that come this week. Not going for perfection, just real nice.

Will get a roll of the nicopp line from local orilleys. Every time I get something there I do the survey off the receipt and get a $10 coupon. As you mentioned, hard sometimes to trust online what you get for sure, and the price difference makes me wonder.

    Thanks

I took this pic of my clip off only for the interesting observation I think it was originally some kind of green!

Been waiting for weather to improve a bit to paint, I have to do outside. Finally got rear wheel backers painted! My first shot at it, not bad.

Painted backers are probably ho hum, but what I found cool was being able to see the original Bendix logo and most of the part number.

Now to finally get them back on and move to front! Parts all here, got anti-seize for eccentrics, new lock washers. Some assembly required.

Nice Bendix parts. That's the good stuff Mike.

Keep the push going. Warm weather is almost here. We're here to help!

On the left is the Never-Seize from Permatex. Get the smallest jar possible. A little goes along way (except when it gets on your hands)....I've had this jar for many years.

Got a 1 oz tube of the stuff from Tractor Supply. Have seen the stories and jokes, so I’ll try to be cautious.

Your thread dies remind me to tell that when I battled the eccentrics, buggered up a couple threads. The local Orilleys let me use their thread chaser set in the store to fix them. If I have to do that again, it may be worth the 100 for a set.

Finally, some reassembly! Rear backers on, torqued down and brake innards back in place.

Being inexperienced it took some fussing to get brakes together. Need more than 2 hands. In my estimation, regardless of the utubers, brake spring pliers are useless. However, a wood clamp does come in handy to hold things in place for a brief time. Can’t yet wrap my non mechanic head around how the pressure from the brake lines and cylinders can move this.

I did also create my rear brake line patterns using a section of house electrical wire. Not going to take a lot, so if I mess up, I have plenty of brake line tube.

Back at it after chasing total eclipse and some dog sitting that has kept me out of the garage

Got the rear brake lines done! Took 3 tries on one side and that effort made the other easier. Not perfect, but look real good to me.

Left side. Axle clip not back on yet, have to paint it. Loom is there for it. Much better than the loop de loop that was there.

Right Side. Complete with loom and thru clip on differential

Thanks Dne and Pete for the tips. The nicopp was easy to work with and tweak just a little. I did get a short chunk of that loom for the proper touch.

Also finally took the advice from a real early post and got a “real” tool box in the garage, instead of tools piled on the counter.

Next in mind is to finish rear drums painting now that weather is nicer, then on to front wheel adventure.
