What is that advantage of moving it to the firewall? Did Jeep do it for more room for a larger battery or just to get the weight further back?

Still waiting on parts. I need to find the carb spacer . The one I ordered that was supposed to fit is about a third bigger in all direction.

A better shot of the busted up distributor hold down hole.

And the goodness inside the water pump. No metal just all mineral build up. Surprisingly it still rotates smooth. I think it must have just been sitting a long time.

The Jeep has been going through a bit of a growth spurt. With the above issues it became a if I’m going to do this I may as wall do this and this and this…..

To recap the Jeep died and it turned out to be a crack in the timing cover at the distributor hold down let go allowing the distributor to rotate.

New timing cover, oil pump, timing gears and chains, HEI distributor, swap the 1bbl manifold for a 2bbl, Holley Sniper efi, new fuel lines, pump, filters, and return line to support the efi.

For the timing cover, oil pump and all new hardware I went with TA performance. Nice stuff, arp hardware. Only issue was the angle the oil filter more than original Dauntless putting the oil filter straight into the original radiator lower outlet. So add a new radiator, with all the rest probably not a bad deal.

This was more than I wanted or felt 100% comfortable doing on my own so I had Advanced Engine Dynamix in Corona California. Jeep looked a bit odd sitting next to race cars and old 911 but these guys do awesome work on stuff well above my old Jeeps station.

They made all new fuel lines, a bracket for the crank trigger and all the above insulation and got the Holley timed and a bunch of other stuff as they came across it . Going from a 1bbl with Chinese eBay carb to 2bll, efi and hei, WOW! It woke the 225 up!

Ignore the squeal. The tapping sound it the injectors firing.

This morning went for a shake down run to see how it all works. On the streets it was perfect. On the fire roads just going slow the temps did climb. Not surprised, I am not running a shroud. Will be adding an electric fan.

Then the brakes have issue when a rear cylinder decides to let go.

It sounds really good. Still trying to figure out which Jeep is yours or both.

99.9% of the time you are better off sourcing a proper fan shroud. Add on electric fans are just a band aid that usually end up hurting you in the long run.
