That is a home brewed set-up.....looks like someone tried retrofitting the long v6 cable on to the early pivot bar. Having read through a bit of your other discussion, I think you have a bit of a hodgepodge jeep? Was this jeep possibly a 4cyl that someone swapped a v6 into?

Also, i can not seem to get into 4 low the linkage is sloppy but it seems like it is hitting the floor and running out of throw. I know this jeep did not come with the v6 so maybe it was never che

    Yes, it was a 4.

I think just going to a master and slave is the easiest work around.

They are hanging but they have been cut and shortened. I think someone had big feet and needed some room.

I took the cables back out and started with the pedal cable as close to the correct length as I could. Ended up using a screwdriver at the fulcrum point to move the clutch and get it in place. Seems MUCH better.

Yup....dana 20....has the centered output shaft. Not OEM on early cj5s....wasn't OEM with v6....but is very similar to the large case D18 that came behind the v6. typically the D20 was found in 1972 and later CJs. Rear axle would normally be centered pumpkin to stay inline with D20 whereas the D18 has the output offset to the passenger side and the rear axle pumpkin also offset.

Thanks! So 4 low should be all the way back,

And I really appreciate all the help you guys have thrown my way. I have been trying to search for myself but being this thing was built by Mr Cash one piece at a time and it didn’t cost him a dime I am struggling on the info.

but all part of the fun. I drove it about 40-50 miles today and was smiling the entire time.

I am not a D20 expert, but I think there are two different shifter set-ups....its possible you have the 'J' shifter as found on jeepster commandos - iirc you pull rearward for 4wd, then have to push it to the passenger side and forward to get into low....do a quick search for that....here is some more info on the D20 in general:
    https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transfer-cases/model-20
and a the general consensus has been that the J-shift style gets very sloppy with wear, and a twin stick conversion is highly recommended. A few different companies make a version...ask the forum about them if you decide to go that way.

What NF? It just looks familiar...
I'm down the road form CNF, Trabuco District.

I'll guess that a strand of the cable could be broken and is hanging up on the inside of the housing. And IMHO the bend in the pic looks a little tight but it could just be the viewed angle. Any other routing options?

I am an exit south of Tom’s Farm off the 15 in corona/temescal valley.

The cable being a stock cable is about six inches longer than ideal. It works for now but will need to be addressed.

I'm on the other side of Santiago peak.
Have you tried lubing the cable? A few drops of TriFlo or something and let it seep into the housing.

I opened up the shifter opening some for the tcase. It is a J pattern shift. It took a lot of effort to get it over and up. The shaft for low I don’t think had been moved in many years. It was even harder to get back out of 4lo.

After lubing up the rails and moving everything thing around it has freed up and actually feels nice.

    one more hurdle jumped.

Pinion seals have been ordered. Like the shifter I don’t think the front driveshaft had been turned in a long time. I swapped in the front locker and after some driving around the front pinion seal just given up.

Rear locker is sitting on the bench waiting.

Sounds like you are making progress....given the lack of recent use and/or maintenance, front hubs and kingpin bearings may need some love.

Your Jeep looks relatively clean, sure makes it easier to work on when you don't have layers of grease and mud to scrape through. Another observation is the driver's floor board: I don't see any hole for through the floor pedals. Is it possible the hanging ones are the original?
That tag on your D-20 t-case could tell you when, where or what it came from if you're curious. I looked up my D-300, if I can remember where I found the info I'll post it up. As it's NOS I was curious as to it's age.
Would be fun to see your Jeep in person. Maybe someday up on the Main Divide? Don't know what roads are open on your side though.

^^^The holes have just been covered over.

I got a call back from Jon at JB this morning and told him what motor, trans and tcase are in the jeep. He said it is a commando set up. So twin sticks are on the way.

I removed the steps this afternoon. I liked the way they looked but the DS was already pushed over and had been welded on to the body on one side. The wife was not pleased by their removal.

I went up Indian Truck Trail last weekend and the gate is locked. It has been closed since the fire and then they used the rain as an excuse to keep it closed. We were actually evacuated during the fire and rains the following year.

would for sure be up for something local and easy. I don’t fully trust it enough to get me home just yet. Haha.

Went on a solo danger run up el cariso trail in lake elsinore. The road is basically a fire road with a few areas of ruts.

Jeep made it with no struggle.

I pulled the axles today after work. I will get the carrier out tomorrow and get the locker installed.

I do have a question on the axles. The driver side had zero shims. The passenger side had a thick stack and the bearing didn’t look like it was seared correctly. See pictures.

When my neighbor got home from work he asked if it was broken again. I just said “ no, why?”

That's normal. All the shims are usually in one side from the factory. If you're worried about the rear wheels being offset 1/8" to right side, it doesn't hurt anything to split the shims to both sides.
