A genuine barn find, this is the one I've been posting questions about recently. Bought it at a local farm auction and brought it home two days ago. I've been searching for a Dauntless Jeep for years, finally found the right one. Ugly seats, incorrect air cleaner, a few other small items, otherwise very complete and original. Only surface rust. Good compression and oil pressure, 4.88 gears, locking rear diff.

P.S. Thanks to those who replied this morning and suggested I try Beaming Pix. Seems to be working fine.

    Somebody likes gauges!

Very nice. I like the firewall tags and marks. 4.88s! Only thing more you could ask for as a '70 is a flanged axle, but it should have a PowrLock. (y)

Yes, gauges are good, they all work, but they're a bit rough so I'll probably put in new ones. I was hoping for flanged axle, but, oh well . . . Also like the tags and marks, any idea what that "42" on the firewall means? All the axle tags are still on, including the little one on the rear axle that says "use limited slip diff lube only". Also, the VIN says it came with "Emissions", I'm sure that got quickly tossed, nothing left of that system

Yep, score!!!! Overdrive? The only other component to make that about as good as it gets.

    A very nice score indeed!

Doesn't look like it has been molested, the seats aren't nearly as ugly as what came in mine. That is a high performance chrome air cleaner, they were all the rage in the 70s.

The 42 on the firewall looks like it was drawn before the junction box was installed. Could be be something from the assembly line.

It even has those racing stripes that make them go faster.

Nice one, someone posted link to that auction here, I was watching, but once it hit 2K, I was out, hard to convince Mrs Snoops that I needed another 70 when I have one in the garage that is still in the build state. It's got the hood reflectors double score!

Thanks, nope, no overdrive, just that one lonely little transfer stick down there, first old Jeep I've had that didn't have at least two, besides the trans, sticking up in the air. Doesn't look right. :D

Thanks, probably won't do much with it this year other than take it out for an occasional drive, we've been working on a 2A for the past two years, getting closer to the finish line on it, hoping to have it done sometime this summer. The Dauntless will have to wait until next summer.

Thank you, we're feeling pretty good about it, it's actually only been on the farm for the past 10 years, and didn't get much use there, before that it was owned by some local families since new and got pretty good care.

Thanks, yeah, not much action on it until about the last hour or so, I had the high bid until about 30 seconds before the end of regular time, then one or more bidders jumped in, put the auction into extended time and it was fast and furious for about 5 minutes. Yes, got one original key! Very cool!

Thanks, it's in really nice shape, spent it's first 40 years with some local families who took good care of it, only up on the farm for the past 10 and didn't get much use there. I was thinking the same thing about that "42", some kind of assembly line code, be cool to know what it meant. Not sure, but I think those racing stripes are the 20 h.p. version.
