It is definitely getting some holes.
    And that is a must.
    That's a good thought.
    Thanks guys

Also the factory ones have a scoop cut into the angled part below the front driveshaft- depending on the angle of your dangle that might be a thing.

I would also add an up-turn at the trailing edge of the skidplate. I have gotten hung after sliding over a big rock, but needed to reverse to pick a new line. I found the rear edge of the plate had me seriously hung up.
Some grade 5 carriage bolts or countersunk plow bolts make a smooth underside (I’ve welded them in), but you need to be able to get nuts installed at the crossmember.

Thanks, and I do plan to do that.
I've got some countersunk Allen bolts ordered, aka flat head allen, in 7/16 for the bottom. What is the best way to ream the hole to accept the flat head allen bolt? All I really have is a drill press. Is there a bit for that?
I was considering a large drill bit, maybe 1 1/4 to taper the holes.

Another option is to drill a big hole in the sheet and weld in a piece of tubing vertically. Then cap off that tubing and drill a hole in said cap so you have a sort of pocket that the bolt head will sit in. Of course, you end up with a big hole on the bottom so it won't be the best thing ever if you're going to drag it on a rock, but the bolt will be untouchable.

Good idea, this will help a lot. We were often getting caught on logs and rocks with the tiny factory skid plate. Plus it was easily bent. Was just thinking it may be heavy for removal if needed for maintaince or repairs. maybe design so it can have a hinge of some sort on one side so it will swing down to one side without complete removal. Will make a reinstall much faster/easier. Just thinking how the skid plates are designed on dozers and skidsteers ect. The attachment to frame bolt holes are oversize and elongated with the bolts using big flat washers. Once in service the skid plates become bent here and there causing stress in the skid plate assembly making realignment of mounting bolt holes difficult. Also equipment skid plates often have large radius Corners so not to hang easily on rocks and so on. Looking good there, carry on.

just shows the rubber snubber under the T18 and the heat shield around the exhaust pipe that really was the purpose for this whole thing

    Edit
And I did add another opposing brace near the park brake drum

Not too much today. Mostly working in the shop insulating and a dump run and a hike with my wife. Went for a trail ride....

The pups had fun. For Jack Russel's, they're surprisingly hardy in the cold (they have fuzzy feet). They are not big dogs. Arthur is on the right. Lulu is our new bitch, about 1/2 his size. Headed for -8 degrees tonight so stoking the wood stove now.

Thanks Dave. The 1/2 cab is far from original, but it blocks the wind and is surprisingly warm(ish). These Jack Russel's are great dogs.....

I hope things are warm down your way.

My brother has a Jack Russel Terrier: Mr. Bones. Talk about personality! He is wide open and always having fun! With all the damage from Hurricane Helene in his area, Bones would ride shotgun on security runs with my brother, checking in on the neighbors when they were without power for 28 days! Jeeps and dogs just go together!

Got out in the shop since its warmer. Started cleaning up and moved a lot of stuff off the frame and running gear of the 64. Going to put it on jack stands so I can start the 11in brake upgrade.
Still have to replace the rear main seal and fix the stuck clutch. Long term project. Body is still on the rotisserie and needs passenger side floor pans replaced. Got all the stuff to put the 53 A1 back together. Getting ready for Spring. Not much progress but slowly plugging away at these projects.
It's amazing how stuff just accumulates on these stalled projects. Feels good to just clean up my working space.

Arranging engine parts and getting them off the frame on the 64 CJ5. Tons of head bolts, valves, valve springs, bearings, old military water pumps to rebuild. Found some old fuel pumps, I forgot about. Single stage, though. All in boxes. So much stuff collected on the frame. I must; "Stay on Target", not start anything else until I get it all organized.

There was a Jeep under there!

    64 CJ5 in garage resized.jpg
Found 8, 11in backing plates, 6 of which are useable.
Now to find a place to store the 3 cylinder heads that were stored on a tabletop on the frame.
Moving the flywheels and old engine parts out to the storage container.
Progress was made! Now to find a set of jack stands to start the brake and clutch work this
Spring. 53 A1 beside it is ready to re-install the radiator and get it to pulling fuel again.
Nice weather to work out in the garage.
