Does anyone know where you can aquire a MC cylinder pushrod for a 77-78 jeep? I bought a MC off E Bay and it didn't come with one, I'm in the middle of swapping a disc brake MC onto my 75 CJ-5. I'm not too sure if the pushrod is retained like pushrod from my 75, the c clip retains it.
How is the pushrod retained in the 77-78 MC?

Yes you will need a new push rod if you are using the stock drum brake master cylinder. The stock push rod uses a retainer that fits between the piston and the snap ring. The 77-78 disc master uses a retainer that fits inside the piston shaft. They are usually rubber or and e clip style. I made one from parts at a brake parts supply house. Not sure if you can find an actual stock push rod.

As an example: the assembled push rod at this summit link is what you are looking for. I made mine for about $20, but this kit has all the parts you need.

Tri County Gear in California offers, or did, an adjustable push rod.

I saw this at Summit, but wasn't sure if the OD of pushrod would match the ID of the Jeep MC. Has anyone used this adjustable unit from Summit?

I was temped to buy that pushrod from the local speed shop, but never actually went and matched it up to the MC. I see you are in NorCal. I bought my parts from Power Brake Sales in Sacramento: http://powerbrakes.com/ I expect they would ship to you if needed. The part numbers that I used for my '78 Disc MC are:

    1 - Pedal extension - PRE5564
    1 - Grommet - 129495
    1 - Extension - PRE107

I ended up just shortening my old pushrod and rounding off the end, works great.

Glad it worked out, but I thought the retainer was the problem.

I wasn't sure about it, but it's not going anywhere.
