    Sanity check!

I'm adding an electric windshield washer set-up into 71 cj5. I want to put a combination wiper/washer switch into the dash where I've pulled out the manual pump "switch" for the old bag-style washer set-up. My question is, are combination wiper/washer switches basically "universal"? In other words, if I pull the switch from a GMC Envoy's or Trailblazer's rear window wiper/washer set-up (because it's a good looking switch and a whole lot cheaper than the Jeg's one intended for Jeeps) and found a wiring diagram for it, could I assume it will work in basically any 12V vehicle? This particular switch is a 3-speed with washer as a center push-button. I'm thinking the switch must have some sort of built in resistors to handle the 3 speeds and that the Jeep's wiper motor would be okay getting 3 different voltages; and that the washer pump is just waiting for 12V and really doesn't care how it gets it....

Am I thinking straight or have I totally missed something?

First off . you only have a two speed wiper . so why not just go and get a momentary pull type switch , and use the hole that the washer knob is at , that's what I did

So you've got two switches, one on the left controlling the wipers (HI-LOW-OFF) and another switch on the right of the dash which is just a momentary switch for handling the washers. Since I don't have either switch or even the wiper motor yet, I just wondered if I could combine into a single switch set-up. Motor/linkage must have gone out sometime ago and PO put a single overhead wiper on driver's side which is pretty awful.

If this is a bottom mount wiper system the speeds are co trolled in the wiper motor. The switch just controls to which circuit the power goes. Shouldn't be any reason you can't use that switch. You'll just have to figure out which terminals do what. Should be fairly simple with a dvom. I used an aftermarket switch in mine when I converted to the later windshield.
