Have not started yet. but have a Buick 225 that I would like to put into a 75 Cj5 frame. Originally had a 304. I have engine mounts from a Commando and would like to know how far back off the front bumper is a good mounting position. Just a referance point. I will measure the commando but not sure it's the same. going with a DJ3A body.
    Thanks

Personnal opinion as near to the front bumper as possible. Take off the 304 from the frame, transmission and t-case too, If you have dissemble the body, reassemble it over the frame and put the radiator in place, if you want to put an electric fan put it on. So now with an engine crane put the 226 inside the tube over the frame rail without the engine mount on and put it as close as possible to the radiator with the fan in place. Doing it this way, you will be sure you will have enought lenght in the rear driveshaft and you could possibly swap a th400 and dana 20 combo from a commando. 226 were made to be put in early cj5 model, the front of an 1975 is longer than early model so using a 226 with and electric fan should gave you enought room for auto trans.

An obvious question - why? A flatty body is too short for a '75 frame. You could stretch the front clip to fit, but then you'd have room for an inline six, like the '75 Jeeps came with. Or you could shorten the frame. The body won't fit like it would fit on a pre-72 frame.

Put the body on the frame first. That will dictate where the engine, transmission, and transfer case goes. Don't forget about steering and front differential clearance as well as front driveline and exhaust.

I'm moving this to fabricators forum as it is neither flatfender nor Intermediate.
