Ive been working on my 75 5 but I have a couple of questions. On the dash, I have three cutouts for indicator lights. Looking around it seems that there should a spot for lights, washer, and hazards. Was there a separate switch for the hazards and if so where do I find said switch? Next question, how did the battery hold down mount from the factory? I have the tray but nothing to hold it down. And finally, what holds down the passenger seat, that is, what keeps it from bouncing up on the front bracket? Thanks guys for your help.

On the passenger seat there is a latch that is part of the passenger seat that hooks to a "ring" mounted to the floor.

I have a 75 cj5.. I'll try to get you some pix in the next few days.. I do not have OEM seats any longer but as I recall the pass seat just sat on the floor and tilted forward. The "D" ring underneath was for opening the toolbox.. The only latch allowed the to seatback to lay flat against the seat bottom so it could be rotated up against the dash. There is also a lever on the bottom of the seatback to release it. The latch also has a rod that runs under the seat for front operation. My batt tray has a hold down attached to it. Two threaded rods and a clamp. The hazard lights are located just to the left of the key.

The latch shown in your pics did double duty, to latch the seat back upright but to latch to the floor as well. See above post.

You may find it helpful to browse the part manual and look at the drawings. You can find it online here.

Most of the parts unique to the Intermediates are NLA (no longer available) from the aftermarket. If the usual Jeep sellers don't have them, you'll have to adapt something from a later model CJ, or find the part used from a wreck. There is a link at teh top of the forum that will point you to various parts sources.

If you find the part you need in the parts manual, try googling "Jeep" and the PN. Most of the sellers list these parts along with the PN, and they can be found that way.

The battery tray is NLA. You can use the '76-on battery tray, but it's not exactly the same as the original. You'll have to drill a couple holes in the firewall, as I recall. But it works well - that's what I did for my '75.

There's an eyebolt that screws into the floor, to catch the latch on the seat. NLA.

Tim the latch in my Jeep never attached to the floor in any way. Looks like it might but it doesn't.. At least thats how I remember it.. I'll look again to see if there are any holes where the catch might have been.

The hook on the bottom end of the latch goes into the eye of the bolt. Look for a tapped hole in the floor. My CJ-6 is equipped with an OEM eye bolt which I saved from my days at the Jeep dealership - my impression is they are scarce now. I can post a picture later if needed.

All I can tell ya is that my CJ never had an eye for the latch.. I did find one pic of an earlier seat latch on the web. It also has an an eye in the seat belt bolt hole.. Here's an example of one I found. I also read posts where some have it and some don't.

Interesting. That picture has a latch under the seat...maybe a custom thing. Mine has the eye bolt as Tim described.

I am gonna look at my floor tonite. Could be mine had it at one time and the PO removed it. I am the second owner of this Jeep. The PO installed shag [gag] carpet and may have removed it.. I'll look for bolt holes or what ever..

Thanks for the replies. The PO has modified the seat brackets, but I was able to find a replacement one. The replacement has the latch posted in the last pic but when I looked at my floor I dont see where the latch was supposed to be. I suppose mine didn't have one originally but I'm gonna see if I can find the ring that it latches to somewhere. Otherwise I may just fab one up. As for the hazards, my manual shows the "hazards" light but not the switch. Guess I'll somehow wire it into my aftermarket turnsignals. Again, thanks for the replies.

Nick is correct - the latch shown in the blue Jeep is for 1971 or earlier. This is the correct style of seat and latch for a '75.

There's no eyebolt here because the picture is too old... it's from before I found the eyebolt in my junkbox.

The PN for the hazard switch or the eyebolt will be in the parts book, not the service manual. Please reread what was posted above.

I was trying to point out that the wiring diagram does not show the switch but now I found it.

Hmmm. Just looked at my heap and ther is one threaded hole behind the seat.. Probly where the elusive eye bolt that I am missing used to reside.. No matter now as I have modified my seat brackets and mounting to accomodate Corbeau seats..

That is interesting. Mine, and all the others I have seen have the latch that grabs the seat back. There is no hole In Zila's where the eyebolt would screw in. Here is a picture of my 75 Jeep dash.

Photoshop... it's too clean. :coffee: ;)

I like the whiteboard. You have an artist in your midst. (I have a whiteboard in my garage too, but it's only used for notes).

Zila just said there is a threaded hole in his tub for the eyebolt.
