Axle Shaft Key

In the service manual it shows the axle shaft key tapered on the end. It doesn't describe the dimensions. I have some standard stock that will work. First time for me so how long should it be?

Dana 44, tapered axle.

I guess my description should have been more specific. I went to the FLAPS and they had no part listed. They did have the square stock. I bought a piece and drug it home. I figured it must be cut to length and installed.

I found the part on line. I like that better cause I can't measure. Thanks.

 

And the stock you bought from the parts store is most likely soft and not a suitable replacement.

 

Glad you found the right part. There is also a specific taper to the key that if not right can damage the hub when the nut is torqued.

Here is the difference in the key from the parts store and the correct part. The rear axle shaft key is actually rectangular and not square.
