Winch motor switch is the starter switch immediatly to the right of the 3 toggles at the bottom of the dash.
Very simple conversion with the only real concern is making sure what you get for a solenoid can handle the amperage. Starter soleniods are a very bad choice.

Mine is mounted similar to this, a heavy plate welded to the back of a c-channel. Just be sure to make a big enough opening in the bumper channel so the cable has no chance of contact with it no matter the pull angle. Also, that is one nice looking winch Scott.

Hmmm, I cannot post a picture, but on my 1968 M38A-1, I welded 2 x 4" rectangular tubing across the frame rails, gusseted of course, then welded another piece to the top with the outer edges cut at a 45 degree angle. I then cut out the fairlead opening and sleeved the bolt holes with a piece of pipe to strengthen the mounting area. It tucks right up against the grille with 1/8" clearance, doesn't block a ton of airflow, and pulls exactly in line with the frame.
Of course, afterwards, I realised that the fenders were left with no protection, so I added 1.5" x 1.5" heavy wall square tubing to the sides, angled up and toward the rear (to guide things toward the tires).

I managed to edit my avatar - take a look....

Yes. It's fast too. I've had it four years now with lot of use. Very happy with it.

If your making your own mounting plate like Scotts above, is there a recommended size for the fairlead hole in the mounting plate and the slot in the bumper?

Thanks, I l know this thread is older but some good ideas here.
