    Gentlemen:

I have a Dana 25 powr-lok gear set in a Dana 27 powr-lok carrier/case with an adapter plate from Herm the Overdrive guy (I guess the adapter makes the 25 gear set useable in a 27 carrier). Anyhoo, I am having an install problem. When I install with a full clutch pack, even if I shim the carrier all the way to one side, I still have excessive backlash between ring and pinion. I notice that with the powr-lok case halves bolted together, there is a pretty good sized gap between the two case halves. If I dissasemble and take out one clutch plate with tabs and one clutch plate with out tabs (not the bellville washers---they're still in) and then reassemble, the gap between the case halves disappears and I can shim to eliminate the excess backlash between ring and pinion.

So here is the question: can a Dana 25/27 powrlok work just fine without the full complement of clutch plates? Will it still work okay?? Does it matter which clutch plates I remove?

    Thanks,

    Jordan

How many clutch discs are you installing currently? Sounds like too many discs or wrong thicknesses.

I duuno, my mech is working on it. We have a couple old spec sheets and we are doing it exactly per the diagrams. The clutch plates are new.
