dana 44 rebuild

    I really like the OX. It's simple and bullet-proof. It can be had as electric, air or cable actuated. I went with cable as it is simpler and very reliable. It's a little more challenging to run the cable as you have to make big sweeping turns with it. Are you looking at it for the front or the rear?

    I have an ARB in the front and I'm happy with it too. It's just that with an air actuated unit you are relying on a compressor to lock it up which means that an air line or electrical failure means no locker. I can get most everywhere I need to go without the front locker, but the rear needs to be reliable. Ox also has a part that you can buy that screws into the diff cover and keeps the unit locked if you have an issue with any of the actuator systems.

    looks like i might go with an ok in the rear and keep the front powr-lok for now.

    Opened up the cover and looks like the cross shafts were installed correctly but ALL the case half bolts were backing out. Good thing I opened it up because if I hadn't it would have been a disaster. I even told the rebuilder to use loctite when he put it back together. I guess he didn't so now it makes me wonder if he even put new clutches in there. I'm thinking of doing a badlands (Indiana) trip on labor day weekend so I might just order the aggressive clutches and put them in my self and run it. But thinking of ordering an ox locker for the rear and ditch the powr-lok.
    i was really bummed the powr-lok did not perform better than my trac-loc that was in there and it had wore out clutches in it.

    Read up on some of the posts Oldtime has posted, you can rearrange the clutch parts so it will be more agressive off road if that is what you want.
    Good thing you caught the bolts backing out. I broke all of them in my 3B one week in Farmington.
