seems to me the XJ series used a small triangular aluminum type spacer bracket (DC p/n 52 000 090) to mount/space the steering gear away from the frame; you could probably use this but you would still have to fab a mounting plate.
I believe they were 3 hole mounting.
I recall jeepngem selling these to a shop who used them for saginaw conversions; seems to me dealer/wholesale was only like $6-$7 dollars for that bracket
have to go see if I have any and post a pic

I stand corrected - Yes - Zed is tops on my list for 'Most Scarry PO Steering Conversion'... I remember looking at it and the only thing I could think of is 'Do I have enough gas for my cutting torch to get that mess off'. :D

    R) :D thank you ! thank you very much!. a dubious honor at best but one i will accept. esp since my cj's at the welder's right now. hopefully done by week's end. the 72 frame front is going on from just in front of the engine mount forward on the driver's side. and from the front member forward on the pass side. i am keeping the new forward front member on as well, so i will have a front member under the radiator and one just behind the new front bumper.

i will be selling signed pieces of the removed steel to raise money to fight against jeep abuse.

btw i looked at the steering box mount on the 72 frame and it's the same one that is on the commando that was linked to in this thread so that might be another source. difference is that it is made for 3 hole but you can drill through the mount and frame, add a strong spacer to the saginaw and it should be fine for a 4 hole box. (i hope, we'll find out since that is what i am going to do)
