Does anybody have any leads on a replacement distributor that will work on the V6? I have been running the same Delco-remy on my 71 for about 30 years now and I am getting tired of replacing the cap & rotor every year. Besides that the dauntless never runs good when cold, I suspect the timing has a lot to do with it. Are there any electronic doodads or high performance upgrades for the ignition on the dauntless? Also I have always found that the delco runs better at 0 deg TDC timing rather than the 5 degrees the shop manual calls for. Has anybody else noticed that too?

    Thanks!:flag:

I would check the distributor shaft for play. Sounds like the bushings may be worn out. That would explain needing to replace the cap and rotor every year unless cheap/substandard parts are being used. I would strongly suggest checking the timing chain and gears for play as well. From what you describe you may have wear/play in both of these.
Pertronix is a great upgrade as is HEI distributor and an MSD ignition box and coil. These will not help however if you have a worn out distributor and timing gear/chain set.

Thanks Rickmil. The timing chain and gears are new, but you are right about the distributor shaft play.
