    Guys, I need some help.

I sold a F4-134 Hurricane Yesterday with what I thought was all the parts to rebuild it. The purchaser can not find in all the boxes he bought the 3 bearing caps, front, rear and center. He mentioned they are married to the engine block meaning they are not replaceable. Is that true?

I honestly did not know and I feel bad. Unless I find them in the next few hours, I am going to have to refund the money which is fine.

    Any information would be helpful.

    Thanks.

Yes they are machined to the engine. In rare instances one can get lucky with a replacement set after line boring them installed on the block but it's a gamble.

The ones shown in the link are the bearing shells themselves and are replaceable. The bearing caps are machined with the block as mentioned. Others may be able to be used with some expensive machine work. It is best to keep the originals with the block they were originally matched to

As a side note, the main caps are machined with the blocks on every engine I know of, not just Jeep engines, and, like rod caps, need to be re-installed in the same direction and on the same journal they came off of.

Thanks guys for your help! I really appreciate it!

I settled with the buyer and he is going to scrap the block. Real shame.

I think what happened is when I picked up the F4-134 Block 4 years ago, it was on a hoist with the crankshaft already out and engine parts everywhere. We loaded into my truck, gather what we thought were all the parts but now it looks we did not get everything. Looks like we left behind some very important items.

Sad, another F4-134 block becomes history.

Main caps and rod caps are not truly interchangeable but I have had several blocks over the years changed over to 4 bolt mains, all you have to do is refit the new ones and line bore the block, any decent shop can do this to both the mains and connectinhg rods if need be. You don't need to scrap a block due to this, just pay to have it re line bored, not really a big deal.
