Engine is an F-head, the breather hose that runs from the oil filler tube to the oil bath air filter is disconnected at the air filter side. Of the photos I look at, there is supposed to be a nipple on the filter housing that I clamp the breather hose to, but mine currently has only a hole in the filter housing. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you attach the hose to the filter housing, is there a certain fitting you can use, or can you buy the nipple to insert into the empty hole?

I'm thinking my '57 has a nipple but would have to look (not stored at home). If you aren't worried about originality they make bulkhead fittings for things like this. Has a nipple on one side and is threaded with a gasket and nut on the other side. Should work fine for a breather. They use them for fuel cells and the like for racing. If you are going for original might put an ad in the Classifieds. I bet someone has one sitting around they'd sell.

Thanks Nickmil, not worried about originality, just want the air to be filtered. Do you have a source for one of these Bulkhead fitings? Also, confuses as to how to get inside the top portion of the oil bath, does the "steel wool" come out, mine seems stuck, or pressed in, and I don't want to wreck the cleaner housing getting it out.

The steel wool doesn't come out iirc. Just meant to be cleaned in solvent. The bulkhead fittings can be found at good hardware stores or you should be able to get them from Summit Racing, Jeg's, etc.

Thanks, will have to hit up the "fitting" section of my local hardware. And since the wool doesn't come out, I will go in through the opening which the air intake hose connects to.

My '59 has a nipple on the air cleaner for the hose to attach, it sounds like yours has broken off and left just a hole. Nickmil's advice about a thread-in fitting will work just fine. You can probably use any hose barb fitting from a hardware store and make the threads for it to screw in. Or possibly just glue in a hose barb with a good epoxy.

Yeah, have been looking at fitting online, might try and find a threaded one that fits through the hole with a flange or bolt head on one side (inside of air cleaner with gasket) and nut on the outside of hole, then clamp the hose to it.

    Thanks guys!

I just went down to the FLAPS and picked up an aftermarket breather filter and clamped the hose to it.

That's exactly what I was talking about. Nut and gasket on the inside with the barb and a built in hex on the outside.
