Full time locked hubs

    don just throw the ones off that front end you got from Joel on there and be done with it . sometimes "easy" is worth the not being stock items

    With the warn premium hubs you can get away without the snap ring as long as your axles are spicer. Rzeppa or bendix does require it, forget which one.I'd recommend upgrading to the spicer anyway. Been running my front that way for 18 years with no issues.

    Since you already have them, why don't you put them on and see if you like them? Personally I have them on all 4 wheels. Flat towing is a breeze, just hook up and unlock all 4. Wouldn't do it any other way now. I can't imagine changing out drive flanges every time.

    You'd be amazed at the difference in towing quality and there is a definite improvement in fuel economy of the tow vehicle with the hubs unlocked you can actually feel the different loads.

    1- To start, they're called "drive flanges."

    2- It makes absolutely no sense to pull them on and off. If you want an on/off function for the flanges, install hubs.

    3- If you want flanges and have an open front diff, just tow with the flanges on and think of all that nice gear lube and knuckle pudding coursing through your bearings and U-joints.

    Trade-offs, my friend: ya gotta make peace with 'em. Either give up some towing smoothness or run the hubs. Personally, if your rig was mine I'd just run the flanges. Keep a set of spare shafts tucked somewhere in the Jeep and one extra flange for good measure.

    I just switched out my bendix to spicer.

    I dunno, I just like the way it looks with the flanged hubs. Not the best reason for a Jeep decision but certainly a common one. They're also one more part that can fail and I think the manual hubs will fail before the flanges. It looks like the hubs will stick out a little farther and in a rocky area they could get caught up on something. Since I rarely tow it, too me, switching out the flanges doesn't seem like that much of an effort...6 bolts per side and some RTV and I'm done.

    I wasn't aware of that advantage. I'm assuming I'd get the same results if I remove the drive flanges.

    So noted.

    I assume you mean it makes no sense because of the "extra hassle" because otherwise, why even bother with manual hubs? As stated above, it doesn't seem like that big of a job to switch out the drive flanges with dummy (no pun intended) flanges because of how infrequently I need to do it.

    With you I never know when you're joking. My Captain Obvious side needs to point out that if the axles shafts and diff gears aren't turning they won't need the lube while towing.

    But I want it all. :D

    I knew it! I knew it! Deep down you really covet my Jeep. :D Problem is, if it was your Jeeps it wouldn't be for long. You sell them almost as fast as you buy them. R)


    That's my plan. I'll carry the old Bendix set that I just took out and I need to run down to Jon's and get an extry flange.

    No, I was being serious. If there's no bad driveshaft angles or vibration from running on the road with the hubs locked (or drive flanges installed) just leave 'em. It'll keep everything lubed up. Heck, look at modern XJ, TJ, JK, etc. The front is spinning all the time in those rigs. Not that big of a deal as long as your front driveshaft doesn't buzz. And yours probably doesn't considering your suspension is stock. Why make life hard on yourself?

    And I do like your Jeep, Don!

    Well, to each his own. If you really want to bolt drive flanges on and off, just use the hubs you have and leave them unlocked. That would certainly be easier than maching a new part. As was mentioned earlier you don't need the snap ring.

    As far as catching rocks, I've caught a couple with mine, but still haven't managed to break one.
