steering

    Does anyone know if the steering would work off a 71 commando for my 67:v6:ross steering swap i want to get rid of the ross and have a 71 at the parts yard want the box and what other parts should i grab to do the swap thank you.chainsawguy

    you could grab the box, bracket, pitman arm and the tie rods
    the Commando might also have the double hole knuckle on the pass side
    if so, grab it too.
    also the intermediate shaft and the large u-joint that connects the two shafts
    you're still going to have fab work as well.....
    been a long time, hard to recall.

    You pretty much nailed it Jim. The column is quite different but can be made to work. If I was going to that much work I'd use an XJ or other Saginaw column with the tilt function.

    Thank you i got the pump and the bracket off a 300 buick will bolt right up to the 225 block.I dont know if i need a closed nuckel 2 hole passanger side to use the double mount tie rods? and the steering colum was a automatic i wonder if i should get that as well ? i have alot of questions on this swap thank you :)

    you may also have to notch out the bottom edge of your front bumper for p/s gear clearance; just something else to check after we had our conversation...

    OK there is one more thing on my list.I will take off my front clip tomorrow and take the ross box off so i can see more and plan my moves lol thanx for the conversation i learn something new every day thats for sure.
