Im getting parts together for full width axle swap on my 1970 cj5. I have a dana 60 out of a 1973 j10 5 on 5 1/2 semi floater. does anyone know what size the brakes are on these? 11s or 12s?

Let me get back to you, my friend has one in the back of his Sammi, and he did a swap to disc brakes.

For now, here is a thread where he did a cheap disc swap this week on the D60-

On my rear 60, I just redrilled Chevy D44 backing plates and calipers and used the thick CJ D30 front rotors.

Yeah, we thought about that, but the Eldo calipers are very expensive, and a parking brake is a must. This setup is much cheaper, and the Maxima calipers are easier to find if one goes belly up on a trip.

I don't run a parking brake, but I've got an automatic tranny so it's not really neccessary. No reason you couldn't use a stock tcase e-brake though.

They are stock 12" brakes. Most parts you can still get except for the drums. The drums are nonexistent unless you can find good used. Ty had a good used set that was in excellent shape a while back. He may have sold them though. I've got a set on an axle just like you have sitting next to the garage. The drums are shot though. If you end up needing parts let me know. I'm going to convert to disc brakes on it. Nickmil.

Nickmil, I called Autozone last night and the guy looked it up in his book and said that he could order the drum. I asked him if it was 5 on 5 half and he said he didnt know. His book said it was the 8 lug and the 5on 5 was a 11in. I wonder if i could swap my 11in. off the 44. Probably not...

Why would he spend $245 on an e-brake setup when he has $140 in an entire disc setup that has e-brakes?

By the time he would add the chevy stuff, we're looking at $400....

Maybe it doesn't matter if his rig is really light weight and he doesn't drive it on the road, but those are some itty bitty little calipers and unventilated discs. They were designed for the rotating mass of 28" street tires.

Let's give this guy his thread back- the sammi runs 38" Boggers, and never sees the street.

I've been through all that. Spent months trying to find the right drums for a customer. Never could. Had lots of other people looking too. All they could come up with is 8 lug drums that were 12". If you find a source for new ones, let us know! Nickmil.
