Can you remove the front main bearing through the front of the case or is it pressed on the main shaft ???

It is pressed on to the input shaft. You can remove the input shaft and bearing together, but then the main shaft is not supported. Needle bearings will fall into the case, etc.

You can't really replace the bearing without taking the transmission apart, if that's what you are asking.

With the right bearing puller you can remove the input bearing from the input shaft but you have to be very careful not to allow the input shaft to move forward and drop the pocket needle bearing into the trans like Timgr mentioned. Also there is an "oil collector" or whatever the technical term is that can get bent/damaged if you aren't careful as well.

I was able to remove the front bearing by removing the shift tower and using a brass punch to tap it out. No problem with the needle bearings so far. For some reason the spacer between the main bearing and the first gear in line was all chewed up any ideas what ate up the spacer ???
