Dana 41 carrier bearing shims?

Are the dana 41 carrier bearing shims the same as the 44? Part #s are different but the bearings are the same. And nobody thinks the 44 shims are the same?

 

It's been 25 years since I worked on a 41, but I certainly do not remember having a different shim set for it. Seems if the carrier bearings are the same, the shims would also be the same.

 

yup willys-overland said theyre the same but theyre out of stock. anybody else know for sure?

 

my conclusion is they are the same. looks like walcks has them listed as the same aswell. cool

 

The 10 and 19 spline 44 shims are the same. The id is larger on the 27/30 spline 44 shims and diff bearings.

 

Right . Got the bearings and shims on order . From what iv seen the later model 44 has smaller bearings but i could be wrong. Not that it really matters but they are different. hopefully i dont have much trouble figuring out the backlash on this thing. Cant get any worse than before i had 8 thousandths shim busted on the ring side and 3 thousands on the other plus any that may have decintegrated. the carrier was just floping around in there for who knows how many years!
