Has anyone ditched the mechanical fan in favor of an electric setup on the 134? My thought process is twofold:

    * Since I have added the parasitic loss of a power steering pump, I'd like to try and somewhat offset it by removing the mechanical fan. Yes I realize this is splitting hairs, but when you're dealing with 60hp...

    * My power steering gearbox location is forcing me to mount my stock radiator slightly higher and offset to the passenger side, which doesn't allow the mechanical fan to line up properly with the sheetmetal shroud.

I've got a little 12" reversible fan and adjustable thermostat control, and I'm just wondering if the 12" fan will be enough on those warm summer days in the mountains?

Don't lnow the answer to your question but wouldn't mind hearing about your power steering setup.

Tobyw, it's more about cfm of air flow than size of fan. Unfortunately I don't have those #'s handy necessary for cooling your engine and without knowing the cfm of your fan it's hard to tell if it will be enough. Hopefully someone will chime in on that with more knowledge.

100% agreed and understood. I should have included the cfm rating in my original question  I'll dig out the box when I get home from work to see what the cfm rating is and post back... Thanks!!

I'd think 1600-2000 CFM would be sufficient. I run a 2000 CFM, but with a V6 and Mustang radiator, but the radiator is probably fairly equivalent to a stocker...

Well, it looks like the 12" fan I have on hand is rated for 800cfm... According to the product literature, the next size up is 14" and rated for 1250cfm. And, also according to their literature, the 14" is what is recommended for the '60-'71 134cid motor. I can't imagine the pre-'60 134cid motor requiring much less cooling, so it sounds like I may have found my answer? Now I guess I need to determine if the 14" unit will fit...

Stock fan measures about 15-1/4" tip-to-tip.

The 14" version will not fit in a puller arrangement... The stock radiator is only a little over 13" tall (fin surface at least), and the shroud prevents any overhang. So, I either need to toss the dice on this 12" version as a puller, or step up to the 14" as a pusher...
