I think I am putting this in the right spot? the hubs are on the 78 parts jeep. but will be going on the 68 along with the whole dana 30 axle. i don't know anything about these cutlas auto locking hubs. they have a spot on them that is like a small screw with an A and an M on it they turn like a regular warn hub but its just a small screw. are these good bad or otherwise. i'd like to upgrade to some quality hubs if these are junk. i search the interweb and all they show was a different style of cutlas hubs. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

x3. Seen lots of different Cutlass hubs but never with an autolocking feature. I'd like to see 'em.

not sure how many too post four should be good. i haven't realy looked at them alot untill a couple of days ago when i took them off they don't seam like they will want to come apart but i would like to see what that screw does. when you turn them its like turning a regular hub with positive clicks each way. let me know what you think. thanks

    haven't seen those before.
look more like a replacement drive flange design.
turning the screw just disengages the hub ?
any pics of the sides or internals ?
these were on the 78 D30 axle ?

    I'm guessing the "A" & "M" mean automatic & manual locking.

i turned the screw and it doesn't seem to unlock but being that they are autolocking i don't think you would be able to turn it. i'd like to take it apart to see what the inside looks like and how it works.

The thing is I don't see a provision for manually locking the hubs. Only engagement device I see is that one little screw.

I'd love to see what the inside looks like. I have never seen those before either and I've seen some pretty oddball hubs.

I would have thought that Cutlas was history by the late 60s.
Being these are on a Dana 30, they must have been around until the early 70s then.
Anyway, I don't see how turning that little screw such a short distance can accomplish anything inside the hub......
we need a closer look at them please, when you have the time/chance.
    thanks

here are the pics i took tonight

you can see the selector on the top with the top cover off.

in this one you can see the little tab that goes in and out when you turn the screw
    [IMG]

this is a shot of the bearings that go around the inside of the hub. when you turn the screw/selector it pushes against the bearings to engage the hub.

I couldn't quite get it but where the bearings ride on the inside is multisided which must have something to do with the auto feature and the manual feature.
I think I will just run them for now and see how they do as i can't afford a new or used set of hubs right now. last night with taking out the hubs and axle's on the rear kind of killed my budget i had to pound out the lugs to get the drums off to get my puller on the hub, which is aparently the wrong puller as it kind of warped or bent the hub flange. so if anyone knows where to get some cheap hubs a heads up would be nice. the cheapest that i've found is omix ada which is a little out of reach right now being laid off.

For the rear hubs I'd put an ad in the classifieds section. Someone may have some laying around they are willing to part with cheap. Make sure you list your location and what rear axle you have.

Pics are pretty fuzzy and hard to see, and there is still a lot of grease in there hiding things. Maybe clean the grease out and post another pic?

Never seen a set of those before, very interesting. Inside looks surprisingly like Warn Loc-O-Matics so probably work on the same principal.
