I've got a '67 CJ5. Came with a soft top (Best maybe), and we purchased a hard top that was supposed to fit.

Both are appearantly designed for a more vertical w/s than is on the jeep. I have electric wipers that are mounted above the glass.

Any ideas what I've actually got?

Would a different bracket set solve my problems (rotate the w/s more vertical)?

The angle part can be adjusted but the 76 and later are narrower across the top. That is the critical difference. Sellers on-line will show 74-86 as being the same but they in fact are not. 55-75 use the same height and width.

With top mounted wipers it sounds like you have the stock WS for a '67. Most likely what's happened is that the rubber gasket that sits between the windshield frame & the cowl has deteriorated & needs to be replaced, that should bring the ws back up to the correct angle.

Assuming the soft top is a Best Top Supertop there is a critical measurement that has to be checked before install. Measure from the top of the windshield to the back of the tub and it should be 69 ½”. This is so the top fits correctly.
See page 3 of the linked installation manual for details.

    http://www.bestop.com/installation_guides/51595.pdf

Make sure this measurement is correct before going any further.

    thanks for all the input!

bkd, I definately have the more leaned back windshield, but my hard top would fit better on the less leaned back w/s.

Howard, we replaced the gasket under the windshield when we striped the jeep down last winter.

Coorveeper, the soft top fits fairly well, but i don't have the guards that go over the tub edges (might not be a best). The adjustments were in getting the doors to install and pivot correctly, I had to bend the steel rod that acts like a hinge.

FWIW, the hard top fits the profile of the w/s frame great, they just don't line up very well once the h/t is attached to the tub.

Post a pic of what you have. That's the easiest way for us to tell what you have..

depends how far it is off. may be just a matter of how far back and forth you need to sit the top on the tub. you need to set the doors on while your setting the top to determine the exact location things need to be.

The pic is good from the side but not enough from the front to see what exact windshield you have. From the description is sounds like an early CJ but hard to know.
Look at the link Corveeper posted and take the measurements listed in the instructions. VERY important. If they are off you may have to shim the windshield frame to get them in spec. The lack of top snaps shown in your pic indicates a Supertop.

That Jeep has the battery box cover on the cowl and the snorkle cutout. Would a '67 have those features? I thought those were deleted much earlier......

No a '67 wouldn't, but who knows what's been changed? I've owned probably 20 Jeeps in the last 15 years and all but one has had things changed on it....

Yeah, I hear ya. Mine was only 19 y.o. when Dad bought it, but it's had some work on it too. Still very stock, but the seats and wheels had been changed, converted to 12v, and it had been completely repainted, even underneath. It had been taken off the frame for repainting, where it mounts to the frame has even been painted over, which baffles me. Not like a farmer to do that.

we swapped tubs with a 61. The original tub was so thin you could actually poke thru it. But correct, it did not have the fake battery box and snorkel openings on the 67 parts.

So, I never considered having to adjust (shim) the windshield angle at the gasket! I searched and found 3 other posts about it. One of them talked about re-adjusting the hinge area for a better fit instead. With all the problems we've had w/ this replacement w/s frame, that's probably what I need to do. I'll have to look at it better when it's warmer and the hardtop is back off.

    Thanks for the help.
