CJ-5 headlight trim rings

I am sure that someone has fabricated these hooks before. Any suggestions?

Here's a couple of pics showing the retainers. If it were me I'd look for some intact rings unless yours are perfect.

 

My rings are nice but they are not perfect. I just thought that this looked pretty simple to drill out the rivits and tap some holes. I have some thin steel and figured I would give it a try. I see that I can purchase replacements for $20.00 each but I didn't figure the chrome would be as good as original? The PO of my CJ had some bailing wire at the top of both rings. Figured I could beat that method.... LOL

Do you have 2 of these rings and would you sell them? (In case my idea doesn't work out too well).... LOL
