    Hi Group
Can a old 8000 lb Koenig pto winch be turned
into a hydraulic winch, or is the cost to much ?
    Thanks for all input

There was a member here that did it with a pto winch. I think it may have been Kaiserwillys but not 100% sure. He had quite a lot of the stuff laying around to make it happen. Might pm him and see if it was him and if so what it took and what it cost. If you have to buy all the stuff new then most likely cheaper to buy a hydraulic winch.

All the old tow truck I used to drive seemed to just have had a small hydraulic motor that bolted onto the winch's PTO input shaft in place of a U-joint.

Then there was an engine mounted pump that looked like a P/S pump but with an A/C clutch on it to activate.

For my tastes, when combined with a throttle control cable, this was always the best setup.

I believe the hydraulic winches like the mile marker use the power steering pump.

Providing you have a power steering pump, you'll need a directional control valve and a suitable motor.

Around 200 for a motor and 100 for a control valve plus and hoses and motor couplings.
