Swapping in disk brake onto my 75 cj5 restoration. Bought a set of knuckles with 2-bolt caliper holders, and they had new ball joints installed. Saved $$...but then spent $180 for spindles and outer axles. My problem now has been buying the correct caliper. Local O'Reily store ordered 1979 calipers for me, by my request, as the 2-bolt holders would suggest. Don't fit, too small. Their computer didn't show any other caliper for 1979. So I had them order the 1978 caliper for "rear located (as in position), for CJ5 with 11" rear brakes. (side note: they also listed a caliper "for 10" rear brake") The second ordered caliper came in, larger, but still will not span the caliper holder. They were 5 1/2" from caliper groove to groove. I measured my caliper holder to be about 6 3/8" spread. They suggested I get the casting number off "my" caliper to source....but I don't have one. Does anyone have a casting number, and do your 2-bolt calipers measure approx. 6 3/8" from holder groove to holder groove? I hope I don't have the wrong knuckles :(

Can you post up a pic of your set up? May help determine the issue here.

    Not sure this will help:

The right caliper is a D30 unit (78-81 CJ?),casting # 8365L or-8366R for the right side-and left unit is Scout/Ford I bought for 76 Scout D44 axle. Groove bottom to groove bottom of the calipers is about 5 and 5 3/4" respectively. The Cardone rebuild #'s for the D30 loaded calipers are 18-4014 and 18-4014.

[IMG][IMG][IMG]Here is a picture of my mystery caliper setup. The rusty knuckle is the mate of the black painted and installed knuckle. If it is D44, will they work on my D30? It seems to fit properly?

Your caliper brackets look similar to, if not the same as, the ones I pulled from a 1982 CJ5.

So that is my problem. The 82' versions float on pins, with the pads that rest on the caliper holder arms? I see the two holes for the pins. Would be interesting to know if the 79' casted caliper holders do not have the two holes. I will try to get that caliper then.
