axle retainer bolts

    Would it be a gamble to substitute course threaded bolts for the 6 fine threaded ones that hold the bearing retainer plate in place on a flanged axle providing you use the appropriate locking nuts.

    I'd use fine threaded bolts. More clamping force applied at the same torque.

    More shear strength also in the fine threaded fasteners-shallow thread depth leaves a bigger cross section-analogous to 10 spline versus 30 spline axles. As Nick said-use the fine threaded bolts.
