74 cj5 ?s please help!!

    Im a huge newb to the jeep world.. i just traded for a 74 cj5 and i ran fine then the same day now it wont start.. hooked jumper cables to it and still nothing... any ideas on what i should check?? any imput is greatly appreciated

    Moved to appropriate section. Early's are '71 and older, Intermediates are considered '72-'75 although we allow '76 and newer postings here as well.

    Does the engine "crank over" but not start, not do anything, click but not crank, etc.
    Also, putting some info such as what engine, tranny, etc. you have is very helpful.

    Is it getting fuel? Spark? Has it sat for long periods? More info is very helpful for people to help you.

    304 and it ran "fiine" the day before i got it... and no i doesnt do anything when i turn the key

    Try tapping your starter then trying to start it. Your starter may be "sticking". Good ol fashion way of telling if its time for a new one. I actually just replaced mine because after playing in 3 foot of water all day long....it decided to go out.

    Is the starter solenoid clicking? Do your headlights come on? Check for bad ground at starter solenoid..

    If its not even clicking I would start by making sure you’ve got power to your starter/solenoid.

    Check your battery terminals for corrosion. Make sure you're getting a good connection. Go from there.
