It's been a long time since I've posted here. My Jeep's been down with a broke T14 for almost 2 years now. I've found a Ford T18 with the AA adapter for a decent price. The seller sent me a pic of the gear box with the top cover removed. It looks like the teeth on 1st gear are rounded / worn / chipped on the side closest to the rear of the case. I can see how forcing a non-syncro gear could cause this (ie grinding gears). Is this something to be concerned about or is it normal?

That's actually a good looking gear. I've seen them with the teeth worn half off and still work ok. I wouldn't assemble one that way myself, but would have NO issue using the gear you show. Make sure the dog teeth inside the gear ring is in good shape where it engages 2nd gear. Also make sure the reverse idler is in good shape. I've seen the 1st/reverse gear ring in good shape and weird wear on the reverse idler gear teeth.
I'm guessing you are adapting this so make sure the cluster gear shaft is in good shape. Very common for them to wear or have material imbedded where the needle bearings ride. Also check the cluster gear thrust washers for the same.
