I'm installing 44's in my CJ5 (scout II width, about 58.5" wms). These will be SOA. Going with 35" TSL/SX and 4.56 gears. What is the best way to prevent the axle wrap issue? I've seen articles on the "Bam bar", "wraptor", 4 link set ups. I'd like to know what people have done here. Pics too. Thanks!

I'm just finishing an anti-wrap bar for my rig. I probably won't be able to post pics until Sunday though. I'm doing a triangulated bar from the axle to a 1/4" skid plate. It is connected to the plate with a heim joint on the end of the bar, through a shackle to the skid plate. The heim is free to rotate to help let the axle articulate without binding. I did a lot of researching here and on the Pirates site. It seems no matter which way you go there are some drawbacks. I made mine long, like 35" and I'm re-inforcing the axle tube where it is going to be attached. I have an old D44 with the 2 1/2" tubes. I'm going to make a partial sleeve out of some Schd 40 pipe, then the bar will be welded to that. The Bam Bar looks interesting, but there were some neg comment on the Pirates site about it. Plus, I'm not too keen about welding to the center section.

Nth degree designed a system for the TJ that is adaptable to any d44
I think AEV sells the "Slider" for it which is the base unit. the slider is a nice skid plate that protects the D44 and the ujoint in front of it, Anyway the stinger is a product that bolts to the slider and a bracket that bolts to the D44 and goes forward to the cross member and eliminates all axle wrap. Nth sold a version for the YJ, but the length of the stinger is wrong, getting a Slider and bracket and looking at a picture of the stinger to fab that and a mount for it cross member would be a killer setup that is in the center of the jeep holding the pumpkin firmly in position to eliminate all wrap but allow full articulation of the suspension.

Some folks on JA were pretty keen on Bam Bars. I think a simple third link lile Posi is talking about is the probably the best avenue to go. The more centered the third link the better.

While a Bam Bar would work good on an early CJ5 since there is no fuel tank above the axles like on later CJ5s and CJ7s.
