What axle is this? I've looked for numbers on it and I can't find any, no manufactucters name. New to this mechanical stuff and my jeep is a hodge podge of different a[IMG]utomaker parts.:?

Dana 44's were used in Flat fenders, CJ's, as well as hundreds of other vehicles. If you could post a picture showing the whole rear axle we could better tell you if original or not. The four wheel drive Flatties with Dana 44's had an offset to the passenger side pumpkin to match the 18 transfer case that had offset to the passenger side front and rear output shafts. They also utilized a tapered axle with a removeable flange that was held on with a big nut on the end of the axle shaft and had a dust cap covering the nut. If your axle does not have the dust cover in the middle of the flange then it is not original to your Jeep. There were some Dana 44's used in CJ's that did not have that nut to hold it all together and can be a desireable axle. These are typically referred to as a "flanged" axle as the flange is part of the shaft itself and not removeable separately.

That's not a 41, it's a 44, unless it has a 44 cover on it, but I'm not sure they are interchangeable.. In the pic, it looks like a centered 44, which wasn't factory. Can you get us another pic from the back of the Jeep?

Yeah, the 41 had more of an oval sort of shaped cover to it and the cover was flatter with a more pronounced protrusion to clear the ring gear.

Looks like a 44 out of a wider vehicle judging from the amount of tube sticking out past the lrft spring.
Almost looks like a crack on the right side of the housing too, might be the picture.
