dana 44 bearing cap torque

    well i finally had to replace my rear axles, broke one and twisted the other. any way i cant find what the bearing cap bolts are suppose to be torqued to. doesnt say in my manual.

    70-90 lbs. ft. as per TSM/FSM. I'd go middle of the road and go 80 lbs. ft.
    If you are doing a tapered axle housing put some sealer on the threads. Some of the earlier housings have holes that go through the housing and can leak.

    just to be clear im talking about the differential bearing cap bolts. i had to pull it to get the broken axle part out.

    Yes nickmil is talking about the diff bearing cap bolt torque of 70-90 lbs ft and the FSM also sez to apply sealing compound to the screw threads. page 300 k. of the service manual SM-1046.

    ok, what about the ring gear bolts, had to remove it to get the pin out so i could knock the broken axle piece out.

    Those go in at 35-55 lb-ft.

    thanks, that what i figured but wanted to make sure. its all back together and running fine again. life is good. well guess it didnt do to bad seeing as the axles were 55 years old and have spent the last 20 years powered by a 350 sbc. guess these will go at least another 10-15 years and thats longer than ill be around.
