1984 cj7

I just bought a CJ7 and it didn't come with a top. It is a factory hard top jeep, so what year tops will fit this? I have heard that 1976-1986 will fit, and 1986-1996 will also fit but with minor mods having to be done. Any input is appreciated.

 

Yeah, any year CJ7 works...the 76-86 timeframe....not sure about the later years.

The Wrangler is the same wheelbase as the CJ-7, so conceivably its top could fit. Aren't the windshields the same too? Not sure about the details.

 

The YJ and CJ-7 tops will interchange. There are differences in the back hatches but they can interchange. The door latches are different for different years. Some had door strikers built into the tub with corresponding support brackets and I believe the early ones latched onto the top itself but not sure on that. I do know there are differences in the door latches between earlier and later CJ-7's though. The windshield frames are the same dimensionally between the YJ's and CJ-7.

 

I agree, I have a YJ and have a hard top on the YJ. When I purchased the hard to the same part # would fit YJ's and CJ7
