i have my original M38A1 tie rod, ends were shot, so i bought a complete setup for a cj5, much smaller. now i have a chance to buy a complete set of M38a1 tie rod ends for $50.00, new, 3/4" for my original tie rods. just wondered if it is worth it. ive been running the stock setup for years now without any problems, i have a 55 M38A1 with a 350 sbc and a 4" lift, also 33" tires. i pretty much only use it for four wheeling, rock crawling. what did you all think.

The ends are the same, it's the threaded portion that is 3/4". The CJ ones are 11/16" on the threaded portion which means the tie rods must be changed as well if you use the CJ tre's. I'd go with the M38a1 units for a little extra strength.

as i remember that right. the ends are the same, the threaded ends are 3/4" and the tie rods themselves are a lot thicker. and ofcourse bigger. thats what i did, years ago, the M38A1 ends were hard to find so i bought a complete cj tie rod and ends kit. but i still have the original M38A1 tie rods so thats why i was thinking about buying the M38A1 ends and putting it back. im sure beefier isnt going to hurt anything.

yeah i ordered the ends. i went out and compared the thickness of the m38a1 tie rods to the stock cj tie rods, huge, and i mean huge, difference. they must be 4 times as thick. i know the part that goes through the steering knuckle is about the same but i dont think ill ever have to worry about hitting anything and bending the tie rod itself.
