Is there a reason why the caliper and caliper bracket from the '76- early '78 cj5 d30 w/ 1 1/8" discs cannot be used on a drum-to-disc swap on a d30? Every swap how-to I have seen used the Chevy caliper and bracket, are they used because of availability and price? Or is there a fitment issue with the Jeep bracket?

    Thanks in advance.

No problem there. The GM bracket is used more commonly because of availability.
Be aware the drum brake knuckle is drilled and "clocked" different from the disc brake knuckle so this needs addressed. Either re-drill the knuckle or the bracket. You can use the spindle to mark where the holes go. The new holes need to be exactly in between where the existing holes are at on the drum brake knuckle. You probably will need to grind the knuckle a bit for caliper clearance as well. The disc brake knuckles were cast with this clearance built in. It's not a big deal, I've done it tons of times, but something you need to be aware of.
