Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we are back!

So after the stuff with my Gramps I realized I wasn't going to make the deadline of Nov. 10th and the the Holidays started so I have been spending more time trying to pack on weight then I have working on the Jeep.

Anyway, I finally got back at it. I have had the brake lines I ordered sitting around my house for over a month so I finally got started.
First I had to fab up a mount for the new portioning valve:

I wasn't really sure what to make so I just took some scrap and started cutting and welding. One thing is for sure, whatever I ended up with is certainly overkill.


After I had the portioning valve mount done I started routing the lines. I tried several different ways but I was really worried about the heat coming off of those headers. I ended up routing the lines inside the shock mount which I guess is ok for now but it is going to be a PITA if I ever had to mess with that mount.

The location of the portioning valve came out pretty sweet. What do you guys think about how close the valve is to the headers? I am just worried about heat.

Also I mounted the the master cylinder.


Now all I need is the new flexible hoses for the brakes and I'm good. Anyone have a bead on a place to pick those up? Im going to Google it right after I finish this post...

Welcome back. Any of the local auto parts stores should be able to set you up with the flexible lines you need. The rear should be an off the shelf piece. Once the teenager behind the counter stops twitching at the realization that he can't look up the front lines by model year, they will be able to figure out what you need.

 

Good to see you are back in the saddle. Nice work on the mount. Tweak the brake lines as far as you can get them from the headers and call it good. If you need to you can always use a piece of sheetmetal to make a heat shield between them. It doesn't take much to deflect the heat. So, is the "race" back on? I'm still doing wiring and just got my new fuel tank so I have all the fuel lines and FI to figure out.

I have another pressing deadline to meet, this one is a little less negotiable. The house I have been renting got foreclosed on and goes to be sold on the courthouse steps Jan 10th so I need this beast drivable by then so I can at least move it!

On another note:
Holy cow! Napa has the flexible lines for 26.99 EACH front and 31.49 for the rear. Yikes I didnt know they were going to cost so much. Jeez for that price I would think they would be braided stainless or something...

 

That sucks about your house, you had a pretty sweet deal there.

That's about what I paid for my steel braided lines, several years ago. I don't remember where I ordered them from. But then again I only paid about $15 for 3 feet of steel braided line for my hydro clutch, and that was only 6 months ago. :?

 

I think I am going to have these guys just make me what I need.

I just tried to call and and get a quote but they answered the phone "Ho Ho Hose and Fittings..." so I have to call back when I stop laughing.

 

Make the bank an offer on the house, maybe you won't have to move the Jeep. There will never be a better time to buy a house than now anyway. If you can finish the Jeep by Jan 10 you're probably going to beat me!

Bolted them on and took the beast for a spin around the block [ With No Tail Lights ]

Woo Hoo! Around the block. Well, you beat me that's for sure. I do have tailights though.

 

Well the devil is in the details right.... I wouldn't say its complete yet! Still no taillights as I am figuring out how to tie the new EZ Harness into the old column wiring. I also had a weird issue where gas was pouring out of the carb and all over the hot headers (scary). After I let it warm up though that issue seemed to stop and now I cant get it to replicate. I'm sure it will come back when I am finally out with this thing, miles from any help and then it will burst into flames... good times.
Still no word on anyone giving me the boot so I spent some of last weekend doing body work, trying to smooth out the spot where I had to patch the metal behind the pillar.

Also sold the old early style windshield and bolted on the '76-'86 style. I dont know if I love it yet, it really took away from the boxy look that was just starting to grow on me. No pics of that, but I will try and get some up as I want to get opinions on why only 3 of the 4 bottom hold for the windshield hinges line up.
Also, if anyone is looking for a roll cage like the one in the pick, that one is going as well, going to make one up "family style" just because I like the look better.
One think I noticed right away, this thing is hard as heck to turn with that tiny wheel and those 12.5" tires. I need power steering bad!

Hopefully this weekend I can get the wiring figured out, knock out the other side body work, and take her to get the new exhaust built (right now just running straight pipes with about 3' of flex on the end so it sounds like I have a lot more than a 232 in this thing, hahah.

 

The primer side looks real good. An on-board fire extinguisher is your friend. It sounds like maybe your float was stuck on the carburetor. Maybe from sitting for so long. It may never do it again. Power steering is reeeeeeeeal nice.

 

Looking good. You going to be ready for our Sac area snow run in March?

It started out as a January Sac area ECJ5 get together, but we got rained out. So we are shooting for a March snow run. Right now I am thinking March 5th or 6th.

 

Jeep is lookin good and congrates on getting her on the street. I can imagine what your steering feels like since I know how tough it was at times with that massive stock steering wheel that came on mine. I would LOVE to go on the trip but its not looking like I will be able to get er up and going by that time. Wish i could though.
