is it hard?

    how hard is it to do an axel under spring swap on one of these old cj5's?

    Search "Spring over Axle" It has been discussed often.

    IMHO yes it can be done but it opens a whole lot of cans of worms.

    x2 on the search- remember to use "quotation marks" Anything is possible, however it is generally not something that works out well with stock axles and or springs.

    It's not as simple as moving the spring pads.
    There are steering, brake, spring wrap issues to contend with. Like MB82 said, do a search under "spring over axle" or "soa" and be prepared to read.
