Like the title says. Can it be done? I know it usually goes the other way around (T90 in a T86 case), but a forum member here has a T90 that's junk internally, and I have the T86 out of my 66, that's in pretty good shape, and they wanted to know if it could be done. I am not sure myself, so I thought I would ask the experts. :smash::beer:

I am assuming the T86 case is only good for large hole D18's :?

You can put the guts from your T-90 into the T-86 case; the gear dimensions are the same. This may or may not work with the early D18.

quoted from another post. see thread dauntless bell housing. tim posted it. I would think it should work

You should be able too. There is one shifter fork that must be changed as well. I forget which one though.
The T-86 uses a rear bearing retainer that can be removed and the T-90 plate can be installed in it's place. This means you can make a T-90 bolt up to a large hole case by using the T-86 rear bearing retainer or make a T-86 bolt up to a small hole case by using the T-90 rear bearing plate.

I am thinking that i have done it before, on a friends jeep. but i cant remember if it was t86 guts in the t90 housing or the other way around. he had the whole rear of the tub full of transmissions and parts, and i built him a transmission. but for the life of me i cant say for sure

Also remember the input shaft on the T-86 is longer than the T-90.

    Thanks Nick

So maybe different adapters on bellhousing?

Thanks everyone. Sounds like it can be done most likely. I'll get a hold of this person and see if they still want it. Otherwise I'll just sell it for what it is.
