Can you remove the white-ish glass haze?

My 74 CJ has a white-ish ring around the outside 3" of glass. Is there any way to remove this? The glass is in great shape other than this and I'd hate to replace it. Hopefully it can be removed or repolished or something....

Most of the time that is moisture that has worked its way in between the layers of glass and no way of removing it. Windshields are laminated safety glass with two layers of glass with a layer of something in between (it escapes me at the moment what is in between). Without a pic though it's impossible to tell.

 

Both of my old cars have this problem here in MA. The law here says the fog cannot intrude into the viewing area, but fog at the edge is ok.

I'd just replace it. A local glass shop should be able to do it cheaply.

 

$146 got my new 60 CJ windshield pro installed, with tinted glass and new gasketing, about 2 months ago. They custom cut it on site.

 

Just a comment on tinted glass - realize that it reduces your night vision by more than you'd expect. If you like it, fine, but it was introduced to keep the cabin temperature down and make it easier to air condition the cabin. Not much call for that on a Jeep, IMO.

 

mine is tinted as well. you really cant tell it though. it was the only piece the glass shop had that wasnt a new sheet. so he cut me a deal as he needed the larger piece for another scheduled job. he said that the piece i got was for heavy equipment, like a bulldozer. nothing like being stuck in a 20ton greenhouse all day with the sun beating down thru the glass. in my case it just was the cheaper soulition and got the glass man out of a bind

 

I my case I go with tinted ws glass because when it's dusty and climbing a hill with the sun in your eyes I've found it cuts the glare better.

 

Looks like I'm shopping for a new windshield. Thanks for the info! My ws frame is pretty nasty, so I'll start the search for a complete unit...
