I bought my '67 from the family of the original owner, and was fortunate enough to get one of the original Briggs & Stratton ignition keys with it. Does anyone know if original or repro B&S blanks that read "Jeep" like this one are available anywhere now?

    Thanks!

I have the same key from my 66 CJ5 Tux, but the number is C471. I keep one key when I sold it in 1972. Looks identical.

I believe Jpflat2 is a locksmith. If anyone would know I imagine it would be him. Might contact him and ask. Sorry Jim if I'm putting you out on a limb!:beer:

Didn't a member about 5-6 years ago find about 20 or 30 of these and offer them for sale?

I remember something about that. Can't recall who it was.

I sent an inquiry to an online outfit called Key Men that specializes in keys for classic cars, and got the following in response. It sounds like these keys might not be around anymore, though he does stock an original Briggs & Stratton key blank from the same era:

I'm sorry, but you're not going to find either blank OEM or reproductions of that key. I've never seen an uncut version of the original.

The problem for reproductions is that they were made by the old Briggs & Stratton specifically for AMC. Briggs & Stratton has been split up, and the key maker is now Stattec, and can't use the original logo. AMC, of course, is Chrysler, and although it has the rights to the Jeeps logo, can't use the AMC logo, and wants to charge an arm and a leg to license any of their logos.

I do have original Briggs & Stratton versions of the key, but they don't have the Jeep logo on them.

I just got off the phone with them, he has the round Briggs & Stratton key with the Jeep logo on the opposite side, but no hex key blanks. The round key blank is $85.

You can buy an NOS ignition switch in Kaiser jeep box with two B&S jeep keys from Jungle Jims jeep parts for that price.....

There are, as of the time I'm writing this, three pairs of uncut original Briggs & Stratton keys listed on eBay for $13 + $2 shipping per pair. Though they do not have the jeep emblem stamped on one side, they do have the same octagonal shape heads as the original key pictured in my first post above. To find them, search eBay for: 2 BRIGGS & STRATTON NOS GRV 3 DELCO-REMY 1933 KEY BLANK UNCUT ORIGINAL

You'll note in the item description that it mentions these keys also fit 1946-75 jeeps (I'm not sure they would actually fit jeeps beyond 1971 or 72, but they definitely fit my 1967 CJ5, as I bought a pair and have tested them).

Last week, I picked up on eBay, a NOS ignition switch with two octagonal head "Jeep" one side, B&S other side keys for $41 delivered. The keys are marked C419.
There are a couple on/off key switches, and a set or used door locks offered with these "Jeep" keys offered on eBay currently, but they are a bit pricey.
My new switch was vintage re-packaged in a Big A box under part #325-80, so keep an eye out for repackaged NOS pieces.
