No, not without changing the windshield.

Where are you located? I have one I'm thinking of selling. It is from a 74. It is in good shape and has doors and all necessary hardware.

Re the windshield, I think it can be adapted, but requires some mods. The windshield is the same width and I think the hinges are the same, but the wipers and hold-downs are different. The later windshield tilts back more and is narrower across the top. I think somebody here has the newer windshield.

Post up your location - the hardtop you need comes up for sale pretty often.

i live about 20 miles outside of milwaukee wisconsin. i've found a steel hardtop on ebay but when i went to go and pick it up the guy i was buying it from never showed up. i would rather have a fiberglass top instead of steel but its not a big deal. when i bought my jeep a few weeks ago it came with a soft top but, the top and all the support bars were all mangled and id rahter have a hardtop than a soft top.

I know where you are coming from, I too like the HT over the softop, unfortunalty for us Earlies, the top choice is limited from the usual steel "mailbox" top, or finding the rare aftermarket topthat would have been sold in the early 80's. I have seen a few of these and they are too cool. I just havent found one for me yet.

for the newer top, you have to go with the later windshield, however look to change the lockdown option from the flip to a wingnut on either side, you will have to mod your dash for this, or replace it altogether with a later dash, the windshield hinges for the later model will have to be used, they should mount where the old lower halves unbolt, the holes are off just a bit so you will have to drill. I was gonna do this, but it just came to be too much modding work for me and I want to drive it soon.

I have the later model dash and windshield frame if you decide to go that route btw.

    Hope this helps

im not sure if i want to do all of those mods before winter comes. i found a website called aj fiberglass. they said they make tops for old cjs. im not sure i would be able to throw down over a thousand dollars for the top. if anyone that reads this has a top that they want to get rid of let me know.

I've got a fiberglass hardtop on a '73 CJ-5 that I am interested in selling. The only problem is that I am not ready to put the soft top on yet, as I would like to get some other "body issues" (like no floor boards for example) taken care of first, so I am several months away from being able to sell mine. Sorry for the tease, but in case you are still interested in a while, let me know. It is a tan hardtop manufactured by Acme.

I just picked this CJ-5 up a couple of months ago, and the color is high on my list of priorities to change, especially since it needs plenty of body work anyway. My two choices (for now anyway) are a forest green with a tan supertop, or an obnoxious yellow with a black supertop. One of the guys on this site who has a tuxedo park CJ-5 (Tom Harlow) lives in my hometown and has the exact yellow on his Jeep that I have been planning on using for quite some time (I've been trying to buy this Jeep for about 4 years now, and finally convinced the owner to sell). He beat me to the punch on his paint job, so now I may have to reconsider. My only question is whether to try and attempt body repairs or just buy a new tub (steel).

More that I know who they are....My office occasionally does work with Tom, and I went to High School with Pat. Pat's Jeep is also pretty sharp! (I'm pretty sure it's his anyway)

To be honest, I have absolutely no clue as to what something like that may be worth. All I know is that the Supertop that I would replace it with would cost $x, so I would like to get at least part way to a new soft top. What is the typical going rate?

ive seen one on ebay for a 79 go for $400. i just really dont want to low ball you for the price. I dont think there would be any way for me to come all the way down to nm from wi to pick it up. i would have to have it frieighted up here. i work at ups and i know we dont mess around with anything that big. i just looked on jc whitney and they go for about $675 (the supertops). i would be willing to offer you between 400 and 450. do you know of any freight companys around your area to deliver that to me?

    Watson,

Your offer sounds more than fair, especially since you haven't seen it in person. The overall condition of the top is good, with the exception of the obvious fading of the color, and the rubber needs to be replaced. I am not aware of any shipping companies that will handle anything that big off the top of my head, but I can check into it. My biggest problem is that I wasn't quite ready to sell at this time, with winter coming, and my garage not completed yet. However, if the shipping issue is not too difficult to deal with, I will definitely consider it, and just put a cover on the Jeep for the winter.
