I am converting to a V6 & switched the short input shaft in my T 90 to the longer one.
The shorter one had a felt washer or seal in the input shaft housing.
The longer shaft I got from a doner T 90 had no seal. It does have some acme type threads on the shaft itself, but no seal.
The housings look the same with the 3 hole pattern & all, except the longer shaft is also bigger dia.
Both cases have a hole in the same place to allow oil to come thru & lube the bearing & shaft ( I guess)
How does the bigger shaft keep the oil from pukeing into the bellhousing?
    Thankyou for your time...Tom

It really doesn't. The acme screw you describe is designed to channel the oil back to the transmission with rotation of the shaft. If you get on a steep hill it can still leak out into the bellhousing. Only way I'm aware to fix that is to get a different shaft or possibly machine the one you have for a seal. Can't remember on those if there is enough material to do that though.

some adapters, such as Offenhauser, are machined for the seal.
The adpater bolts to the trans, and acts as the bearing retainer.
The T90 retainer, then bolts to the engine side of the adpater.
but the seal, is in the adpater; it's a Ford seal if I recall.
what adapter are you using ?

try locating Mike Bolton; he's in your town.
good 4wd guy with his own shop.

This has come up here before. IIRC the IH (or maybe it was Ford) t90 had a seal in the bearing retainer. If you can't score one of those then there's always the sealed front bearing mod in Rick Stivers' t90 rebuild guide, that's the route I went with Tonk's tranny.

Doh, good call on the sealed bearing. Forgot about that.
